A Poem by Ralph ThePoet Watkins

All I ask is that you vote. Don’t make excuses. Find your way to the voting poll. Don’t worry about the weather, whether it’s hot or cold. Your vote counts—don’t ever think that it doesn’t, or that it won’t. Every vote counts; make yours count.

Vote Dominique Lamb #District6

written by Ralph ThePoet Watkins

All I ask is that you vote.

Don’t make excuses.

Find your way to the voting poll.

Don’t worry about the weather,

whether it’s hot or cold.

Your vote counts—

don’t ever think that it doesn’t,

or that it won’t.

Every vote counts;

make yours count.

When all the votes

are counted and

a winner declared,

it’s then, and only then,

that democracy lives

within hearts and homes.

Don’t just go out there alone

and vote; bring

your family members or friends.

We need everyone to

get out and vote for the individuals at every level of government, for every elected office, to help make changes

in the world around us

each day, every day.

I feel like I’m asking a lot,

especially of those who

could care less about who

wins or loses, and allow

themselves to live with

whomever the world chooses.

My plea is that we really need you to help make a change for a better future, starting today for tomorrow.

When you get into the booth with

the curtain pulled closed behind you, try not to just stand there and fill in the blanks;

take your time, read the instructions, look at what each candidate’s platform represents,

and select carefully the candidate for each level of local and state government who would best represent you.

Our ancestors fought—and some lost their lives—

so we could have this privilege.

Let’s not give up our right to vote.
